Explore the Wild Atlantic Way
You don’t have to jet away to experience beautiful coastlines as a family. Instead, Ireland has plenty of stunning seaside views, walks and drives on offer. And few come more highly recommended than the stark beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way. Whether you’re tempted to undertake the whole trail or just sample a portion of the route, it’s certain to be a memorable adventure for all the family.
Not close to the West? Never fear, the route stretches the whole length of the island, from the South in Cork to the Northern coast.
Art and Crafts at the Ark
The summer is the perfect time to try out some family-wide activities and for the older members to re-embrace the fun of play-time. Tempted to tackle some arts and crafts? The Ark in Temple Bar has a wide range of events on year-round for families to take part in. From hands-on workshops, to family-friendly talks and exhibitions, it’s a one-stop creative haven. Fota Wildlife Park
If exploring the wild is more your family’s cup of tea, you can venture down to Cork this summer and charm everyone with a trip to Fota Wildlife Park. An expansive parkland, visitors have been making the trip to Fota since the 1980’s. With a host of colourful inhabitants from Brazilian Tapirs to nimble Cheetahs, the park has plenty to delight younger visitors. While nature-lovers can also revel in the beautiful surroundings, with Alder, Ash and Beech trees just some of the species on display around the park.
Retrace the footsteps of US President Barack Obama’s 2011 visit to his ancestral home in Moneygall and soak in the sights of the Offaly village. Just off the M7, this Midlands town has plenty to offer visitors, from a chance to explore the former home of the US President’s Irish ancestors - the Kearneys, who left for the US in the 1800s. While cycle tours around the area are a good way for the family to tour the aptly named Kearney Loop.
