About

When we noticed a high level of cancer claims amongst our customers, we wanted to do something to help, so we teamed up with some of Ireland's top medical experts to design Pink and Blue Power. This is a potentially life-saving breast and prostate health assessment service which is available to our customers under some of our Salary/Income Protection Schemes.

Unfortunately, cancer knows no bounds:

  • 26% of women diagnosed with Breast Cancer are under age 50*
  • Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women in Ireland*
  • 1 in 9 women diagnosed with Breast Cancer during their life*
  • Prostate Cancer is the second most common cancer in men in Ireland**
  • 1 in 7 men are diagnosed with Prostate Cancer during their life**

The service was built for women under age 50 and men aged 40 to 65, as there is currently no official national prostate or breast assessment service available in Ireland for these age groups. To date, 17 Cornmarket customers have been diagnosed with cancer through the service. Thankfully, their outlook is positive due to early intervention. By the end of 2018, this service will have reached 31,000 Cornmarket customers nationwide***.

How the service works

The service has been set up so it's as easy as possible to book - it's all done online. The initial GP assessment only takes 15 minutes and it's free (sponsored by Cornmarket). If further investigation is required, members' will get a rapid referral to the participating private hospital; Beaumont Private Clinic (Pink Power) or Bon Secours Private Hospital, Dublin (Blue Power).

The cost of the referral, and any scans or biopsies required, are also covered - sponsored by Cornmarket (unless members' have health insurance that covers some of the tests).

Pink and Blue Power is an excellent example of how early detection and intervention is critical in the fight against breast and prostate cancer. If one life can be saved through the initiative, it will all be worthwhile. To find out if you are eligible and for more information/full terms and conditions, please read the frequently asked questions section below.

Pink FAQs

Who is eligible?

To be eligible to book a Pink Power appointment, you must be under age 50 and an INTO congress delegate who has been invited to book by the INTO. If you are outside of these groups, and notice any symptoms or have concerns, please contact your own GP directly.

What if there are no appointments left when I go to book?

As this is a once-off promotion, there are only limited appointment slots available to book. Booking is on a first-come, first-served basis. When appointments are filled, there won’t be any more made available so early booking is advised. If you are concerned about your breast health and can't book an appointment, please contact your own GP directly.

How do I cancel my GP appointment?

Please contact the GP service providers, Full Health Medical, as soon as possible by emailing: pinkandblue@fullhealthmedical.com or phoning: (01) 554 9795.

What if I am over age 50?

All women over age 50 are eligible for the national breast screening programme BreastCheck. BreastCheck provides breast cancer screening for women aged over 50, up until age 69, by providing a free mammogram on an area by area basis, every two years. The aim of ‘BreastCheck’ is to reduce deaths from breast cancer, by diagnosing and treating the disease at an early stage.

How long does the Pink Power assessment take?

The initial assessment only takes 10-15 minutes where you get the opportunity to:

  • Avail of a clinical breast examination
  • Ask a medical expert’s advice relating to breast health
  • Get a report outlining the findings of the consultation
  • Find out how to perform a breast self-examination.

Why am I asked to create a username and password when booking?

So you can create an account on the website to access all the information you need for your appointment. Your account is in a secure area so nobody else can access or see it other than you and your team of assigned medical professionals.

What if I need further tests?

If you need any further tests you will get rapid access to the symptomatic breast clinic at Beaumont Private Clinic. There you will meet a consultant surgeon who will examine you. If further tests are needed, like a mammogram or ultrasound, these will be performed and interpreted by a consultant breast radiologist.

Do I have to pay for it?

The cost of the GP assessment is kindly sponsored by Cornmarket. The cost of the referral to the symptomatic breast clinic at Beaumont Private Clinic including consultation with a breast specialist, and breast imaging, where necessary, is also covered by Cornmarket. Should you require a biopsy the cost of the biopsy will be covered if you do not have health insurance. Any additional costs outside of this such as travel/food/medical/ surgery/treatment are not covered by Cornmarket.

Will my results be shared with anyone?

All results/information provided in relation to this programme are strictly confidential and will only be retained by the GP clinic, Full Health Medical and Beaumont (if referred). If you are referred, a written summary of that consultation will be sent by Beaumont Private Clinic to your own GP (not the GP you chose for initial assessment).

What if I have trouble with the online booking system?

If you have any issues with the online booking system simply contact the Full Health Medical GP service support team by emailing pinkandblue@fullhealthmedical.com or phoning (01) 554 9795.

Will my Health Insurance be affected if I use it?

No. This will not affect your health insurance policy or premium in any way. Unlike other insurance policies, you are not penalised for using your Health Insurance. If you need any advice on Health Insurance, please contact our Health Insurance team or your Health Insurance provider.

Blue FAQs

Who is eligible?

To be eligible to book a Blue Power appointment, you must be aged 40 to 65 and a delegate of INTO congress who has been invited to book by the INTO. If you are outside of these groups, and notice any symptoms or have concerns, please contact your own GP directly.

What’s involved?

A brief questionnaire and a clinical exam followed by a blood test, called a PSA test. There is no fasting required so no need to skip any meals.

What is a PSA test?

It’s a blood test that measures the amount of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) in your blood. PSA is a protein produced by the prostate. It is normal for all men to have a small amount of PSA in their blood, and this amount rises as you get older. However, a raised PSA level may suggest you have a problem with your prostate.

What if there are no appointments left when I go to book?

As this is a once-off promotion, there are only limited appointment slots available to book. Booking is on a first-come, first-served basis. When appointments are filled, there won’t be any more made available so early booking is advised. If you are concerned about your prostate health and can't book an appointment, please contact your own GP directly.

How do I cancel an appointment?

Please contact the GP service providers, Full Health Medical, as soon as possible by emailing pinkandblue@fullhealthmedical.com or phoning (01) 554 9795.

Do I have to pay for my GP assessment?

No. The cost of this is sponsored by Cornmarket.

Why am I asked to create a username and password on the booking website?

So you can create an account to access information about your assessment. Your account is in a secure area so nobody else can access or see it other than you and your assigned team of medical professionals.

What if I have a raised PSA?

This shouldn’t be a cause for immediate worry. 2 out of 3 men with a raised PSA, who go on to have a prostate biopsy, do not have prostate cancer (Source: Irish Cancer Society, October 2017). Full Health Medical will contact you to advise you of the next steps and confirm if you need a referral. If your PSA is raised, and you have no other abnormal results, you may be advised to have your PSA test repeated 6 weeks later with your own GP. Continuity of care is guaranteed and Full Health Medical are there to assist you throughout the process.

What happens if I need a referral?

Bon Secours will contact you directly with your referral date within 4-6 weeks of your PSA results.

My PSA test came back normal but I’m still being referred. Why?

The GP reviews other important factors like your age, family and medical history and the results of your physical exam, together with your PSA results. This determines the GP’s decision on whether you require a referral for further tests.

Do I have to pay for anything if I’m referred?

The cost of the referral, if needed, is also sponsored by Cornmarket, if you don’t have health insurance. This includes up to 2 consultations, an MRI/CT scan and biopsy, if required. If you do have health insurance, you will be asked to use this at the hospital to help cover the cost of tests or a biopsy, where relevant. Travel/meal/medication expenses, surgery or any other treatment outside of this are not covered.

Will my health insurance be affected if I use it?

No. This will not affect your health insurance policy or premium in any way. Unlike other insurance policies, you are not penalised for using your health insurance. In fact, it’s exactly why you are paying for health insurance - so you can use it when you need to. For any queries on your health insurance, please contact our health insurance team or your health insurance provider.

Will my results be shared with anyone?

All results/information provided in relation to this programme are strictly confidential and will not be shown to anyone, outside of the medical professionals involved. The information will be retained by the GP clinic, Full Health Medical and Bon Secours (if referred). If referred, Bon Secours will also send information to your own GP (not the GP you chose for initial assessment). Your medical information will not be shared with any other third-party.

What if my results detect an infection?

Urinary tract infections in men are extremely rare but if you have an infection, this will show up in your results. Full Health Medical will contact you with your results and explain the next steps. An infection like this will need to be treated separately by your own GP. If you require a referral for further tests relating to prostate health, Full Health Medical will arrange this separately for you.

What if I have trouble with the online booking system?

If you have any issues with the online booking system, please contact the Full Health Medical GP service support team by email pinkandblue@fullhealthmedical.com or phone (01) 554 9795.
