How do I pay my car insurance premium?
You can pay your car insurance premium by credit card, charge card, debit card, direct debit, cheque or bank draft. Please note that a charge of €10 may be applied to payments by credit card, charge card or debit card in order to cover the cost charged by the card provider. We are sorry, but we are unable to accept cash payments.
What type of car insurance cover can I buy?
As a PDFORRA member, you and your partner can join the Public Sector Car Insurance Scheme and can choose the level of cover that's right for you with our Select and Economy car insurance cover options. Our Select car insurance cover is our competitively priced option with an extensive range of benefits, while our Economy car insurance policy provides you with basic essential cover at a lower price.
How can I suspend my car insurance cover while on duty abroad?
If you are a PDFORRA member who is serving abroad/at sea, and your car is not in use, you can request to suspend the third party element of your car insurance cover, which will result in a saving on your car insurance premium. It is important to note that your car will not be insured to be driven at this time and cannot be used, but it will be covered for accidental damage and fire & theft cover.
If you wish to avail of this benefit you will need to request a suspension of cover by confirming the dates of suspension of cover. This can be done by either writing or by sending an email to Cornmarket. The Car Insurance Certificate and Disc will also need to be returned to Cornmarket.
The reduction in premium is based on approximately 75% of the normal insurance company premium for the period of time that your car is off the road (25% is still charged for the other cover in place). If you are paying by direct debit, the same debit amounts will continue. Where a refund is due, your installments are reduced by dividing the refund into the remaining months.
Suspension can only happen for periods of a minimum of 28 days and the policy for that period must be claims free.
If there has been a claim previously in the current period of the policy the full premium must be paid.
As soon as the car insurance policy is reactivated a new certificate and disc is issued.
The savings accrued will be refunded when your policy is reactivated once no claims have been made that year.
