Why is the Plan so important?

In the event of your death, financial support may be a significant issue for your family. Mortgage payments, day-to-day living expenses, credit card bills and so on, will still have to be met by those you leave behind. This is why the benefits of the CAFNBO Group Life Plan - GANBO & GACBO are so valuable:

Please note: You must remain a member of CAFNBO to remain an eligible member of the Plan. If you leave CAFNBO, you must inform Cornmarket in writing, as you can no longer stay in the Plan, and you will not be able to claim from it.

How much does the Plan cost?

CAFNBO Group Life Plan – GANBO €7.97 per week
CAFNBO Group Life Plan – GANBO & GACBO €13.95 per week

Premiums are paid by salary deduction. This is Inclusive of 1% Government Levy.

Warning: The current premium may increase at the next Plan review on or after 1st January 2030.

Spouse/Partner/Cohabitant* cover is restricted to Accidental Death Benefit only for the first 12 months. 

*Please refer to the Plan policy document here for the definition of Spouse/Partner/Cohabitant.

Warning: Important: If you are applying to join the Plan more than 3 months after being enlisted in the Defence Forces or if you are re-joining the Plan please be advised that a benefit is only payable within the first 12 months after membership has been formally accepted by Irish Life, where death occurs as a result of Accidental Death.

Retained Members

If you become a retained member of CAFNBO following your discharge from the Defence Forces and wish to continue your cover, please contact us on (01) 408 4018.

Retained members can maintain CAFNBO Group Life Plan – GANBO & GACBO membership for a maximum of 17 years from the date you were discharged from the Defence Forces or until your 65th birthday, whichever comes first.

Important: You must remain a member of CAFNBO to remain an eligible member of the Plan. If you leave CAFNBO, you must inform Cornmarket in writing, as you can no longer stay in the Plan, and you will not be able to claim from it.

CAFNBO Retired Members’ Life Cover Plan

CAFNBO Group Life Plan - GANBO & GACBO members are automatically entered into the CAFNBO Retired Members’ Life Cover Plan without medical underwriting, if they:

• reach the Plan ceasing age or the CAFNBO retained member date for their GANBO/GACBO Cover and

• were paying their CAFNBO Group Life Plan - GANBO & GACBO premiums through their Defence Forces Pension

€60.60 per month Joint Member and Spouse/Partner Plan

Need to make a claim?

Our helpful and friendly claims team will guide you through the claims process. They will help guide you and/or your representatives through the claims process. We have considerable experience in this area and, work closely with the claimant, Insurer, trustee and third parties to help get claims processed as efficiently as possible. We have our own dedicated, in-house Claims Team. The team will do all they can to help at what may be a very difficult time. All claims are dealt with in a professional and sensitive manner.
