Can I purchase Cornmarket Travel Insurance cover if I live outside the Republic of Ireland?
No, you have to be a resident of the Republic of Ireland for the past six months to avail of Cornmarket Travel Insurance.
If you are a member of the defence forces, currently serving overseas, our product will cover you for trips originating from your stationed area. Please review your policy booklet regarding special conditions attached to this cover.
How do I get my Travel Insurance Policy Document?
Your Cornmarket Travel Insurance Policy Document will be sent to you by email as soon as your payment details have been validated. A copy of the document is also available for you to view online by clicking here.
When does my Cornmarket Travel Insurance cover begin? When does it end?
The Trip Cancellation Protection will become effective immediately upon purchasing your travel insurance. The remaining travel insurance cover and services provided will take effect when you leave your home to commence a trip. Your Cornmarket Travel Plus travel insurance cover will terminate upon the expiry date of the travel insurance policy if you decide not to renew your cover.

Do I have to carry a copy of my Travel Insurance Policy Document with me when travelling?
Although you do not need to carry your Travel Insurance Policy Document with you for cover to operate, we recommend that you bring it with you every time you travel. It is a particularly important document as, among other things, it provides you with details on what to do in the event of a medical emergency. In addition, some foreign medical providers may wish to see your travel insurance documentation before they will agree to treat you.
Are there any exclusions or limitations to Cornmarket Travel Insurance?
Yes. Cornmarket Travel Insurance has a number of exclusions and limitations. There are General Exclusions which apply to the entire travel policy, and Specific Exclusions which apply to a particular section of cover. For a complete listing of exclusions and limitations, please refer to your Travel Insurance Policy Document.
What if I change my mind after I purchase Cornmarket Travel Insurance?
If you feel this travel insurance is not suitable for your needs and you require a refund please call (01) 420 6724 or send an e-mail to email@example.com. You should contact us no later than 14 days after you have purchased your travel insurance. We can only provide a refund if you have not already travelled, or there have been no incidents which may give rise to a claim under your travel insurance.
Can I buy Cornmarket Travel Insurance if I have a pre-existing medical condition?
If you wish to cover any claims which may arise from any pre-existing medical conditions you must go through a screening process. Once this is complete we will confirm whether or not we can cover your pre-existing medical conditions and whether this would be subject to the payment of an additional premium.
You can buy our travel insurance, but it is important to note that you may not be covered for some pre-existing illnesses or medical conditions which you knew about at the time of taking out your travel insurance. In particular, you are not covered for the following:
- Any claim related to a medical condition or an illness or death related to a medical condition which you knew about and which could reasonably be expected to lead to a claim. This applies to you, a relative, business associate or a person who you are travelling with, and any person you were depending on for the trip
- If you are travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner
- If you are travelling with the purpose of receiving medical treatment abroad
- If you or any person who your trip depends on are receiving or waiting for hospital investigation or treatment for any undiagnosed condition or set of symptoms
- If you or any person who your trip depends on, have been given a terminal prognosis. Please ensure you read the terms of our Pre-Existing Medical Condition clause carefully to ensure that this insurance is suitable for your needs
What is a pre-existing medical condition?
A pre-existing medical condition is:
1. Any past or current medical condition that has given rise to symptoms or for which any form of treatment or prescribed medication, medical consultation, investigation or follow-up/check-up has been required or received during the 2 years prior to the commencement of cover under this policy and/or prior to any trip: and
2. Any cardiovascular or circulatory condition (e.g. heart condition, hypertension, blood clots, raised cholesterol, stroke, aneurysm) that has occurred at any time prior to the commencement of cover under this policy and/or prior to any trip.
If cover is refused for my medical condition, am I still covered?
If cover is refused for your medical condition, we will only exclude any claims relating to that medical condition. The rest of your travel insurance cover will not be affected by this exclusion.
Do I have to buy Travel Insurance at any specific time?
Yes. To protect your own interests we recommend that you should purchase your travel insurance cover at the same time you purchase your travel package. You can buy it at a later date but it will not cover events which have already occurred.
Do age restrictions apply?
The Cornmarket Travel Insurance website is unable to provide travel insurance quotes to persons aged 86 and over. However, MAPFRE may provide quotations to persons aged 86 and over if they contact them directly. Special rates and conditions may apply. Dependents under 24 in full-time education are included free. The main traveller must be aged 24 or over. If all travellers are aged under 24 you will need to call us for a quote. MAPFRE can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or on (01) 420 6724. Can I insure my partner with Cornmarket Travel Insurance?
Yes. You can insure your partner if they are aged over 18 and under 85 and you have been cohabiting as a couple in the same dwelling for 6 months. If your partner is aged 85 or over, special rates and conditions may apply and you are advised to contact our underwriter MAPFRE directly at email@example.com or on (01) 420 6724.
What age categories and benefits apply to children?
The Cornmarket Travel Plus travel insurance family policies cover up to ten dependent children free of charge, provided they are named on the schedule. Children must be under 19, or under 23 if in full-time education, at the time the policy coverage begins. Children named on the policy will receive the same benefits as adults, apart from the personal accident benefit. The benefit under this section is €3,000 for people under 18 or over 66 years of age.
Do children have to be accompanied by their parents to qualify for travel insurance cover?
No, children can travel independently of the main policyholder subject to the usual terms and conditions of the policy.
What is the maximum duration of a period of travel under the Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance cover?
The maximum duration of any one period of travel must not exceed 60 days. If your trip exceeds these durations your cover ceases on the final day of the trip limit. The period of travel must start and finish in the Republic of Ireland. If you are a member of the defence forces, currently serving overseas, your trip must start and finish in your stationed area or the Republic of Ireland only.
Is there a limit as to the number of trips I can make under the Cornmarket Travel Plus travel insurance cover?
No, as long as each period of travel does not exceed the duration specified, you can travel as many times as you like. However, if you go on a trip that exceeds the specified trip duration, your cover ceases on the final day of the trip limit.
Am I covered for holidays I take within Ireland?
Yes, our travel insurance covers you for trips within Ireland provided you book more than one-night accommodation away from your usual place of residence. There are restrictions to the cover provided for trips taken within the Republic of Ireland. Please read your Travel Insurance Policy Document for more information.
Can I purchase Cornmarket Travel Insurance if I am moving abroad permanently?
Yes, but the cover will cease as soon as you arrive at your country of destination.
Who do I contact in the event of a medical emergency?
In the event of a medical emergency, you must call MAPFRE Travel Assistance on 00 353 91 501612 within 48 hours. They must authorise payment of all inpatient hospital, clinic or nursing home expenses, emergency repatriation or curtailment expenses. Unauthorised claims may not be paid, so please contact MAPFRE as soon as possible on 00353 91 545908.
Who do I contact in the event of a claim (other than medical emergencies) under my travel insurance policy?

I'm going scuba diving, am I covered under my travel insurance?
Yes, this travel insurance policy will cover you for Scuba Diving but there are provisions and limitations. Please ensure you read the Sports and Activities section of your Travel Insurance Policy Document carefully.
If your chosen activity is unlisted, this means claims arising from any of these activities will not be covered please contact us directly on (01) 420 6724 to determine if this can be added to your policy. Additional charges may apply.
Am I covered if I go skiing?
Cornmarket’s Travel Plus travel insurance policy automatically gives you winter sports cover. Refer to your policy booklet for the terms of this aspect of your policy.
Am I covered if I am pregnant?
Under the Cancellation or Curtailment section of the policy you are covered if you need to cancel/curtail your trip due to unexpected complications of pregnancy and childbirth. You are also covered under the Emergency Medical and Other Expenses whilst overseas if there are unexpected complications as a direct result of pregnancy and medical attention is required. Travelling whilst pregnant is covered as long as you are not travelling against your doctor’s advice or carrier stipulation. For further details please see your Policy Wording.
Can I cancel my holiday/trip for any reason and get all of my money back?
No. You may receive a reimbursement if you cancel for any reason outlined in your Policy Wording. Covered reasons include, but are not limited to, such unforeseen emergencies as illness, injury or death of you, your travelling companion and/or a close relative. The cover does not include cancellation due to business obligations, change of mind or your dislike of the travel time.
Will my Cornmarket Travel Plus travel insurance policy renew automatically?
To make sure you have continuous cover under your policy, we will automatically renew your policy when it runs out, unless you tell us not to. Each year we will notify you up to 31 days before the renewal date of your policy, and tell you about any changes to the premium or the policy terms and conditions.
If you do not want us to auto-renew your policy, just call us on (01) 420 6724, otherwise, we will collect the renewal premiums from your credit card or debit card.
You should also note that your renewed policy will only be valid when:
- you have told us about any changes to your policy details (including any changes in health conditions) as you will still be required to contact the medical screening company to declare any medical conditions
- your credit card or debit card details have not changed.
In some cases we may not be able to automatically renew your policy; we will let you know at the time if this is the case. For the facilitation of the auto-renewal service we will assume that your details have not changed and you have the permission of the cardholder unless you inform us otherwise.
