Comprehensive Driving of other cars

Most car insurance policies only offer you third party only cover when driving other cars. The Cornmarket Car Insurance Scheme for Public Sector Employees Premium option goes one step further and provides you with automatic car insurance comprehensive cover when driving other cars when you have Comprehensive cover.

Protected No Claims Bonus

Your car insurance policy will automatically protect your No Claims Bonus in the event of fire, theft or windscreen claims so that you do not lose your No Claims Bonus which you have carefully built up.

Step-Back No Claims Bonus Protection

In the event of a claim your No Claims Bonus will be stepped back. In any three year period you may have:

• One claim up to €10,000. This will result in your No Claims Bonus being stepped back by 3 years, for example from 5 years to 2 years.

• One claim of €10,001 or more. This will result in your No Claims Bonus being stepped back by 4 years, for example from 5 years to 1 year.

24-Hour Breakdown Rescue & Driveway Assistance

All of our car insurance policies come with Breakdown Rescue and Driveway Assistance included as standard. Driveway Assistance is there to help you in the event that your car breaks down at home.

DAS Legal Protection Cover

As a Cornmarket car insurance policy holder, you are automatically protected by Europe’s leading legal expenses insurer under the DAS Motor Legal Protection Plus programme. If you are involved in a motor accident, prosecuted for a motoring offence, have a motor contract dispute or need legal advice, the DAS Motor Legal Protection Plus programme is here to help you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Low Excess

The policy excess on our Premium Car Insurance product is €250. Where an additional driver holds a Learner Permit this excess is increased by €125. If you are under 25 years of age with comprehensive cover, an excess of €315 will apply.

On our Standard Car Insurance product the standard policy excess is €500. Where an additional driver holds a Learner Permit this excess is increased by €125.

What do I need to know?

How do I pay my car insurance premium?

You can pay your car insurance premium by credit card, charge card, debit card, direct debit, cheque or bank draft. Please note that a charge of up to €10 may be levied on payment transactions by credit card, charge card or debit card in order to cover the cost charged by the card provider. 

What type of cover can I buy?

As a Public Sector employee you can choose the level of cover and price that's right for you with our Premium and Standard cover options. Our Premium Car Insurance cover is our competitively priced option with an extensive range of benefits, while our Standard Car Insurance policy provides you with basic essential cover at a lower price.

Can I add a named driver to my car insurance policy?

You can add a named driver from the age of 21 with a full or provisional licence.

I am a retired Public Sector employee; can I join the Cornmarket Car Insurance Scheme?

Yes. Retired Public Sector employees and their partners are welcome to join the scheme regardless of age.

What is the phone number for the Motor Breakdown Rescue service?

You can reach the 24-hour accident and breakdown service on 1800 377 700.

Can my spouse or partner join the Cornmarket Car Insurance Scheme?

Your spouse or partner may also join the Scheme and avail of its many benefits, once their occupation is a ‘Class 1 occupation’. Please call (01) 408 6226 for further information.

Can I drive my car abroad?

Yes, you can insure your car so that you are covered to drive in the EU. Please contact our Car Insurance Customer Service Team on (01) 408 4020 in advance of your journey, so that we can arrange an extension to your car insurance policy cover.

What should I do if my car is stolen?

If your car is stolen you must firstly notify the Gardai, check the details of your insurer on your car insurance certificate and notify the insurer of your car insurance policy on the relevant phone number below.

What should I do if I have been involved in an accident and need to make a claim on my car insurance?
