Have you shared your driver number yet?

⏱ 1-minute read

It only takes a minute! You won’t be able to renew your cover without providing it.

Time is ticking to submit your Driver Number.

Since31 March 2025, under the Road Traffic and Roads Act 2023, every driver in Ireland must provide their Driver Number when taking out or renewing their car insurance.

What to know:
  • Your Driver Number (section 4(d) on your licence) is now a legal requirement.
  • Insurers can’t issue a policy without it - for all named drivers too.
  • It’s verified against the National Driver & Vehicle File and shared with the Irish Motor Insurance Database (IMID).
  • Missing or incorrect details could delay or void your renewal.
Helpful tip:
  • Save your Driver Number (and any named drivers’) in your phone -  you’ll need them at each renewal to keep your cover valid and compliant.
  • It only takes a minute - but keeps you fully covered on the road.

Don’t let frost catch you off guard this year

⏱ 1-minute read

A little preparation now keeps you moving safely all winter long.

Irish winters can be unpredictable - one minute it’s mild, the next your car is covered in frost. A few quick steps each morning can help keep you safe, comfortable and ready for the road ahead.

Before you set off:
  • Take a minute to clear your car - windows, mirrors and lights. Good visibility keeps everyone safer.
  • Keep a small winter kit, e.g. de-icer, scraper, gloves and a towel for condensation.
  • Check your tyres - colder weather can lower pressure and reduce grip.
  • Top up your screen wash and coolant - it helps prevent freezing and keeps your view clear.
Helpful tip:

Give yourself an extra few minutes before you leave on frosty mornings. It’s a small habit that helps avoid stress and protects your car too.

Stay warm, stay safe; and enjoy peace of mind wherever winter takes you.

5 quick checks before you hit a winter road

⏱ 1-minute read

Small checks that make a big difference to your safety.

  • Tyres: Make sure tread depth is at least 1.6 mm (3 mm is safer). Check pressure monthly, because cold air lowers it overnight.
  • Battery: If it’s 4 + years old or your car is slow to start, have it tested. A weak battery is the top cause of winter breakdowns in Ireland.
  • Fluids: Top up oil, coolant and winter-grade screen wash. These protect your engine and improve visibility in cold weather.
  • Lights & wipers: Clean lenses, test bulbs and replace worn wipers. Good visibility keeps you safer on darker, wetter days.
  • Brakes & safety systems: Listen for grinding or squeaks and watch for warning lights. Have a garage check brake pads and fluid before the cold sets in.
Helpful tip:

Many garages offer free winter checks: a quick visit can save time, stress and costly repairs later.

Drive safe, stay ready; and enjoy peace of mind on every winter road.
