Heart Health Awareness & Education Programme

Did you know? 1 in 4 women die from heart disease and stroke – the same as men. Yet research has shown that heart disease in women has been under-researched, under-diagnosed, and under-treated for far too long.*

Cornmarket has partnered with the Irish Heart Foundation and the INTO to launch an exciting new pilot Heart Health Programme. It will be rolled out in Cork for a limited period from September 2026.

The aim of this programme is to provide primary school teachers and staff with essential heart health knowledge and guidance on what to do in an emergency.

About the Programme

How it works?

Presentations can be arranged to take place after school during Croke Park hours.

What’s covered?

The 1-hour presentation covers:

  • Understanding heart disease – key risk factors and steps to protect your heart.
  • Recognising a heart attack – and how symptoms can differ in women.
  • Guidance on what to do in an emergency – learn correct hand positioning for CPR using a manikin.
  • The impact of hormones on female heart health.

Why it Matters?

This programme aims to give primary school teachers and staff essential heart health knowledge and guidance on what to do in an emergency. While it has a particular focus on female heart health, it is valuable for males too, and we strongly encourage all staff to attend.
