Can I purchase Cornmarket Travel Insurance cover if I live outside the Republic of Ireland?
No, you have to be a resident of the Republic of Ireland for the past six months to avail of Cornmarket Travel Insurance.
How do I get my Travel Insurance Policy Document?
Your Cornmarket Travel Insurance Policy Document will be sent to you by email as soon as your payment details have been validated. A copy of the document is also available for you to view online by simply clicking on the appropriate Policy Document icon.
When does my Cornmarket Travel Insurance cover begin? When does it end?
The Trip Cancellation Protection will become effective immediately upon purchasing your travel insurance. The remaining travel insurance cover and services provided will take effect when you leave your home to commence a trip. All cover and services for Single Trip Travel Insurance Cover will terminate when you return to Ireland or at the end of the period shown on your Travel Insurance Policy Schedule; whichever is earlier. Multi-Trip Travel Insurance policies will terminate upon the expiry date of the travel insurance.
Who do I contact in the event of a query under my travel insurance?

Do I have to carry a copy of my Travel Insurance Policy Document with me when travelling?
Although you do not need to carry your Travel Insurance Policy Document with you for cover to operate, we recommend that you bring it with you every time you travel. It is a particularly important document as, among other things, it provides you with details on what to do in the event of a medical emergency. In addition, some foreign medical providers may wish to see your travel insurance documentation before they will agree to treat you.
Are there any exclusions or limitations to Cornmarket Travel Insurance?
Yes. Cornmarket Travel Insurance has a number of exclusions and limitations. There are General Exclusions which apply to the entire travel policy, and Specific Exclusions which apply to a particular section of cover. For a complete listing of exclusions and limitations, please refer to your Travel Insurance Policy Document.
If I cancel my trip, can I get a refund on my Travel Insurance?
You may receive a reimbursement if you cancel for any of the reasons specified in your Travel Insurance Policy Document. Covered reasons include, but are not limited to, unforeseen emergencies such as illness, injury or death of you, your travelling companion and/or a relative. The travel insurance cover does NOT include cancellation refunds due to business obligations, change of mind or your dislike of the travel time. Pre-existing medical conditions are not covered.
What if I change my mind after I purchase Cornmarket Travel Insurance?
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you feel this travel insurance is not suitable for your needs and you require a refund. This email should reach AIG no later than 14 days after you have purchased your travel insurance. We can only provide a refund if you have not already travelled, or there have been no incidents which may give rise to a claim under your travel insurance.
I have a medical condition. Can I buy Cornmarket Travel Insurance?
You can buy our travel insurance, but it is important to note that you may not be covered for some pre-existing illnesses or medical conditions which you knew about at the time of taking out your travel insurance. In particular, you are not covered for the following:
- Any claim related to a medical condition or an illness or death related to a medical condition which you knew about and which could reasonably be expected to lead to a claim. This applies to you, a relative, business associate or a person who you are travelling with, and any person you were depending on for the trip
- If you are travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner
- If you are travelling with the purpose of receiving medical treatment abroad
- If you or any person who your trip depends on are receiving or waiting for hospital investigation or treatment for any undiagnosed condition or set of symptoms
- If you or any person who your trip depends on, have been given a terminal prognosis. Please ensure you read the terms of our Pre-Existing Medical Condition clause carefully to ensure that this insurance is suitable for your needs.
What is meant by a Pre-Existing Medical Condition?
A "Pre-Existing Medical Condition" refers to injury, sickness, disease, illness or any other medical condition that you knew about or should have known about before you purchased this travel insurance. For a complete description of Pre-Existing Medical Conditions, please refer to the general exclusions on page 6 of your Travel Insurance Policy Document.
Do I have to buy Travel Insurance at any specific time?
Yes. To protect your own interests you should purchase your travel insurance cover at the same time you purchase your travel package. You can buy it at a later date but it will not cover events which have already occurred.
Do age restrictions apply?
The AIG website is unable to provide travel insurance quotes to persons aged 79 and over. However, AIG can provide quotations to persons aged 79 and over if they contact them directly. Can I insure my partner with Cornmarket Travel Insurance?
You can insure your partner if they are aged over 18 and under 79 and you have been cohabiting as a couple in the same dwelling for 6 months. If your partner is aged 79 or over, special rates and conditions may apply and you are advised to contact AIG directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 1800 283 087.
What age categories and benefits apply to children?
Under our Single Trip Travel Insurance there is a special "Family Rate" which covers two parents and up to four of your dependant children up to 18 years at the time of purchase and who are named on the schedule. If you choose to purchase our Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance up to four dependant children up to 18 years are covered free of charge provided they are named on the schedule. Charges will apply for any additional children beyond the four dependants named on the travel insurance policy. On all products children receive the same benefits as adults, apart from the Permanent Total Disablement benefit, which does not apply. The death benefit is €7,000 for children under 16 years.
Must children be accompanied by their parents to qualify for travel insurance cover?
No, but it is a requirement of this insurance that they meet up with parents, guardians or relatives on reaching their nonstop destination.
What is the maximum duration of a period of travel under the Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance cover?
The maximum duration of any one period of travel must not exceed 31 days for Budget Insurance, 45 days for Premier Insurance or 60 days for Premier Plus Insurance. If your trip exceeds these durations your cover ceases on the final day of the trip limit. The period of travel must start and finish in the Republic of Ireland.
Is there a limit as to the number of trips I can make under the Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance cover?
No, as long as each period of travel does not exceed the duration specified in the travel insurance you have purchased, you can travel as many times as you like. However, if you go on a trip that exceeds the specified trip duration, your cover ceases on the final day of the trip limit, and you should purchase Single Trip Travel Insurance to cover this trip specifically. No single trip should last longer than 31 days under Budget Insurance, 45 days under Premier Insurance or 60 days under Premier Plus Insurance.
When would Medicare Extra Travel Insurance be suitable for me?
"Medicare Extra" Travel Insurance is only suitable if you have Private Health Insurance with VHI Healthcare, Irish Life Health or Laya Healthcare, and it provides an element of private medical insurance while you are abroad. All persons covered on Cornmarket Medicare Extra Travel Insurance should also be covered under their Private Health Insurance, which must remain in force for the duration of the insured journey. Please read our "Medicare Extra" Certificate of Insurance for more details.
Does my Cornmarket Travel Insurance cover me if I am travelling on business?
Yes, provided you have selected the Business Insurance option.
Am I covered for holidays I take within Ireland?
Yes, our travel insurance covers you for trips within Ireland provided you book more than one night accommodation away from your usual place of residence. There are restrictions to the cover provided for trips taken within the Republic of Ireland. Please read your Travel Insurance Policy Document for more information.
Can I purchase Cornmarket Travel Insurance if I am moving abroad permanently?
Yes, but cover will cease as soon as you arrive at your country of destination.
What service does AIG Assistance Services offer?
AIG Assistance Services operate a 24 hour emergency service. They can liaise with doctors and hospitals, guarantee medical charges and advise of who to contact in the event of a medical emergency.
Who do I contact in the event of a medical emergency?
In the event of a medical emergency, you must contact AIG Assistance Services within 48 hours. They must authorise payment of all in-patient hospital, clinic or nursing home expenses, emergency repatriation or curtailment expenses. Unauthorised claims may not be paid, so please contact them as soon as possible on 00 44 1243 621 508.
Who do I contact in the event of a claim (other than medical emergencies) under my travel insurance policy?

I'm going scuba diving, am I covered under my travel insurance?
Yes, this travel insurance policy will cover you for Scuba Diving but there are provisions and limitations. Please ensure you read the Sports and Activities section of your Travel Insurance Policy Document carefully.
Am I covered if I go skiing?
If you require ski cover you need to extend your travel insurance policy to include it by ticking the appropriate box and paying the additional premium. Our Annual Multi-Trip travel insurance product automatically gives you 17 days ski cover free.
What is the maximum length of travel under a Single Trip travel insurance policy?
The maximum length of travel under the Single Trip is 120 days.
Am I covered if I am pregnant?
Yes, but you are not covered if you are more than 26 weeks pregnant at the start of or during your trip.
What is the definition of Europe?
Europe is defined as the continent of Europe west of the Ural Mountains including its neighbouring islands and non-European countries bordering the Mediterranean (excluding Algeria, Lebanon, Libya, Israel and Jordan).
What is the cancellation cover discount on Single Trip Travel Insurance?
If you do not wish to buy cancellation cover for your trip you can delete this section from your travel insurance and avail of a discount.
What is an Excess Waiver?
If you have purchased Budget or Premier Cover, by paying an extra premium, your travel insurance policy can include an excess waiver. This will reduce the excess referred to in the Table of Benefits to nil. If you have arranged Premier Plus cover, all excesses are nil. This discount is not available on Extended Stay Travel Insurance.
